Tedious and disappointing

As it was  another damp grey day I thought I'd make a start digitising some of my old slides. My title says it all. To get reasonable printable quality (300dpi) from full 35mm slide takes 4-5 mins, then processing  adds another 5-15 mins, I'm beginning to ask myself if it's worth it.
The results are unimpressive, not the fault of the scanner but purely because of the original slides. I've started with a collection from 1992, taken on Ektachrome 200. Its strange how they looked quite good when projected but when scanned they're extremely contrasty and fuzzy.
I just hope I find one or two that are worth keeping
