The quantum mechanics of love
When you have been together a long time you get the physics. There are moments, particles of intensity if you like, and sometimes these are so frequent and so close together that it feels like a wave. Sometimes the wave is of low intensity, like a tide coming and going, a natural rhythm of your days. you get to know each other’s next move and it is so instinctive that it is like breathing.
Today we lay in bed and held hands and waited for the moment when it was right to get up, and we showered and dressed and went out to Guildford for breakfast and Christmas shopping. It was just like being in Kraków again, enjoying each other’s company, and enjoying the sun and the blue skies.
It was a good day. You didn’t care about whether it was waves or particles; it was just a day when things would string along together and you felt whole. And it all started with holding hands.
