Shy?
I remember when I
was shy. I’d hide
behind any available foliage
given half a chance.
Easily embarrassed,
often red-faced,
I wasn’t at an age
when I could envisage
ever being centre stage.
Some kids, of course,
are never timid little birds,
they ooze confidence
and don’t bother with any of that
worrying about what people think nonsense.
But I do have a soft spot
for those who shy away
from being spoken to,
who exhibit unease
when the spotlight falls on them.
And I know, eventually,
they’ll find their place
and lose the red face.
They’ll get older, and bolder.
They’ll be ok.
