Inauguration in New Zealand

At 5:20a.m., (Wednesday the 21st here in NZ) I woke up and stumbled down the hall to watch hours of the Inaugural events on the TV for America's first African-American president. The rest of my family is away on holiday so I certainly missed them while I was watching something that would have been a family event.

What I saw made me feel hopeful for the USA and for the rest of the world. Nothing beats the moment when Obama took the oath and the crowds literally surged with hope and joy!

I couldn't even take my eyes off the screen to fetch the newspaper, so that when I finally did, the weather was warm enough to read it outside. I took a blip of the paper to remember what I was doing when this historic moment occurred, a day I'm sure everyone will never forget.

Alas, I am tiring of the nonstop, almost annoying commentaries on CNN and BBC, etc... that is something to be said in defence of the good old newspaper.
And now after much excitement I can get a good night's sleep!
