Chimney Look-Out
I am having my chimney removed to stop water leaking into the loft. At midday, I climbed the scaffolding to check on progress, and admire the rooftop views over Cockermouth. Further along the terrace, a Herring Gull was doing the same from the top of his favourite chimney. As I watched him, the sun briefly broke through the clouds catching his eye and beak.
This photo captured him in the fleeting moment when he wasn't shrieking at other gulls circling overhead. The next moment, he was gone. I believe he is a non-breeding adult from the brown streaks on his head and neck. He could be about four years of age.
