Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle

I had a trip to County Durham today and had a look at this amazing building. Unfortunately I didn't have time to go inside, but the exterior is stunning.
This magnificent French style chateau took 23 years to complete. The Bowes Museum was the first building in the country to be designed in metric rather than imperial. Stone was quarried at the nearby Bowes estate at Streatlam.
