What a tongue!

As hoverfly photos go, this one counts as an action shot. Ok, it isn't flying, but this drone fly (Eristalis tenax), sitting on a Clematis leaf in the sun in my garden at lunchtime is cleaning its massively long tongue (proboscis) between its front legs. I know it looks like it is playing the trumpet, but I found its little personal hygiene ritual fascinating.
