First sunrise
I was up early as rain was forecast. The fire in the log burner was still slumbering and was soon roaring away. But I felt knackered and drained.
I checked on the aspect of the house - ESE and 20 degrees off south. The sun rose dead centre between East and South and briefly shone before the cloud thickened. It was very parky.
I went and tackled a shipping container-like storage container on the steading. The doors wouldn't shut because it has got a bit squint. With a crowbar I levered a corner up and pushed some old bricks under it. Amazingly - and in rather longer than it took to write this - it did the trick. Then I made an improvised lock as the fixing bolts on one of the doors had completely seized.
The box is now full of old stuff from Kent and my new mower and some huge sections of an old oak barrel that I found lying about.
We packed up our gear and headed for Fiesole up over the pass. The rain came initially as snow and the pass at one point threatened to get tricky as the wind picked up. But we got through without having to resort to the chains.
It was good to get back to the flat to have a hot meal and fall asleep in the afternoon. I'll be back out there tomorrow when the temperature is supposed to be up at a balmy 7C.
This is from the balcony as the sun got ready to rise this morning.
