On thin ice

I found Blackford Pond frozen over this afternoon with all the birds sitting or walking about on the ice. I was very glad to see the swan couple, who weren't there the last time I visited.

A lot of fun was being had by people throwing stones to try to break the ice, which they sometimes did but often didn't. The noise the stones made landing on the ice without breaking it was like a whip being cracked.
