It’s Curtains For You
Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,
Mary Doll and Victor came round for lunch. Mary Doll is very excited as she has new curtains and felt that I should know about them. In a lot of detail. There was a 10 minute monologue about the saga of buying the curtains (John Lewis), having them altered (by Dorota - she’s Polish, 2 sons, lives in Penicuik), the practical difficulties of ironing them (she had to use the kitchen table) and finally, hanging them (some guff about putting them in pleats).
By the end of this, she was buzzing with excitement about her latest soft furnishings so I politely asked if she is pleased with the end result and how they look.
‘The length is great. They hang so well. They look…, oh my goodness, actually Victor, you tell her. How do they look?’
‘They look like curtains’
I was crying with laughter. There endeth the curtain lesson.
