Wood for the trees

I had a moment of doubt this morning. Could I have been wrong? Had this all been some political equivalent of Ali’s “rope a dope” routine; lulling the EU into a sense of false security by perpetrating months of a humiliating, excruciating, utterly useless display of clueless incompetence, before suddenly pulling a rabbit out of a hat?

We had a deal apparently. We’d obviously put one over on the EU without crossing all of our ‘red lines’. I mean, you had to be impressed by that. But it would mean that I was wrong. That Theresa was a Machiavellian genius after all.

But wait. The EU side didn’t look crushed.

Oh, right. It was a complete surrender. The brilliant EU strategy of refusing to budge while pointing at the ticking clock we’d started had paid off. After months of bluster and lies and moronic catchphrases we’d completely caved. Yes Theresa - capitulation means capitulation. Well done.

What an utter joke. 50 Billion to get a worse deal than we have now, but blue passports.
