Bootlaces

Out with the spaniel this morning I came across a tree trunk in the grip of honey fungus rhizomorphs commonly known as "bootlaces".  Although there were no fruiting bodies to be seen, the bark of the tree had come away and the exposed rhizomorphs encircled the trunk and extended from the ground to the tips of the dead branches..
