Remembering Pearl Harbor

 It is now 76 years later. Being December 7th, many of us know the date and the famous quote by FDR, (Dec. 7, 1941, “a date which will live in infamy“) and, of course, the implications and significance. On this day, more than 2,000 Americans were killed in the attack, which very quickly launched the U.S. into World War II.

It just so happens that at this moment I am reading a book on "The Search for the Sydney". A number of attempts were made to find the Australian cruiser HMAS Sydney and the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran, which were both lost in a sea battle on 19 November 1941, off the coast of Western Australia. 

By coincidence, this happened 18 days before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The two wrecks were located in 2008.
