Beetle and agapanthus

I have no idea what this beetle is but I found it on the agapanthus. Rather colourful.
We are waiting for rain. This fellow is wet from the sprinkler.....

Been told he is a CMR or Blister beetle.  CMR as his colours are those of the Cape Mounted Riflemen of years gone by.
