David Eustace, Cafe Gandolfi

I spent today in Glasgow in a series of very enjoyable meetings and chats with some of my favourite photographers, finding the time to have lunch with one of them, Dr David Eustace, at Cafe Gandolfi in the Merchant City.

I've been admiring David's work for many years now, and am continually impressed by the way that he manages to be both an incredibly successful commercial photographer, yet does not compromise his artistic integrity or vision.

We had a great discussion about the role of the photographer in relation to art, commerce, advertising, galleries and curators in the current climate, and the problems which Creative Scotland, our national funding body, find themselves in as artists across the country take a stand against them.

David has an insightful, no nonsense approach to what he does which is always refreshing, and I felt I learned quite a bit from him talking about his many years of experience working across the world. Sometimes it's good just to be quiet and listen.

Best of all he told me where I could find the perfect burger on my upcoming trip to the US...a small town with a population of only 17 people!

Image notes:

No antique processes this time - this is me being all modern and using a Blackberry camera. Just for old times sake I made sure to take a picture of him on my Leica III (1935) as well!
