Woodpecker
My morning walk took me past Gosforth Nature Reserve so I thought I'd pop into one of the hides and see what birds were around having their breakfast. I was just about to accept "just another blue tit photo" (actually I do like blue tits, they're very pretty) when this woodpecker appeared. It seemed to have a stash of food hidden in this hole in the tree: a nuthatch had just been nicking some of it (curses, I missed that shot!) but it flew away when the woodpecker arrived. the woodpecker finally departed when a magpie came.
The light was poor so I had to crank up the ISO but the Olympus handled it well. (Other camera makes are available...!)
It's worth looking large if you've time.
(PS Just added an extra of this evening's supermoon! Amazing to think that men once walked there.)
