Heron in Flight

I surprised myself this morning by getting up and into action early and I  am glad I did. I didn't have to share the path with cyclists and dog walkers and it wasn't too hot. The light was lovely and it didn't matter that the tide was well out.

There was of course the inevitable heron feeding in the channel beside the track. After giving me a variety of poses, it took off, flying low across the mudflat. It looks like it only has one leg but I can assure you that it had two legs when it took off.

I also saw a distant hawk, but missed getting a sharp picture - it was just too far away.
