Not impressed

Most trees grow upwards towards the sky, reaching for the sun. On the common land above Caldbeck, a windswept Rowan has chosen a different route and is growing along a horizontal path, as if creeping along the ground to avoid the wind whistling in off the Solway.

This was written when this tree was nominated for the Top 50 Cumbrian Trees. It was described very well and we were surprised when we found it this morning on a beautiful, windless December day. Marpaul and Misty joined us in this search, but it did not take much finding. Although it is an area we know very well, I can’t say that any of us had ever noticed this tree before.

Misty was not impressed with the tree!! She was happier when we went for a walk at Fellside. A fine walk, although we had to turn round at one point and climb a bit higher up, as the usual path was a sheet of ice. Then we had lunch at the Mill and went in search of another tree. We found it, but it may get blipped elsewhere – or not. A lovely way to spend a lovely day.

The second tree has been blipped - ‘The Mighty Squidgy’ - https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2383359290917260815
