In Emery Walker's Garden
Emery Walker was a typographer, printer and friend of William Morris. Famous for his work in the Kelmscott and Doves Press, his house in Hammersmith has been recently renovated. Only small selective groups can visit. My friend Bridget invited me along for a browse. Penny (in the picture) and her colleague Laura escorted us around.
Hammersmith was an entirely different place in Walker's day. The Thames lined with Industry and the water reeking of noxious emissions.
Today the only pollution came from the noise of scaffolders building roof extensions on adjacent buildings.
