Venice fatigue

There are only so many canals and ancient buildings one young man can take in over a weekend.

In fairness to him by this stage I think his Mum and his two sisters were looking around the twentieth glass workshop in Murano. Shortly after this he perked up appreciably when an enormous pizza was placed in front of him. Then it was the water bus to Giardini for ice creams and for our last night, an evening wander through the quiet back lanes and a final visit to San Marco.

It couldn't have gone better. The weather was very hot, Venice was at its very best, Ruby managed to walk for miles in her moon boot and (literally) hop on and off water buses all weekend and she even managed a quick sprint on Saturday when we were escaping the Venice Liberation Front march. The apartment was in a brilliant residential part of the city and we only got lost about seven times which is good going, although if your aim is to wander around and see where you get to with only the most vague agenda then it's a moot point whether you can get lost at all.
