New Horizons

The Xmas tree plantation is full of frenetic activity.  Tractors are converting paths hardened by walking into seas of mud.  Trees are being felled, bound, packed and, according to their labels, sent off to France.  It will be different after Brexit.
The plantations are sectioned by lines of trees allowed to grow.  I assumed they act as wind breaks to allow others to grow straight and tall.  Those carrying chain saws turned their attention to them today.  They cut down all the branches below head height.  They will no longer be effective wind breaks.  But it means the tops can be cut and sold as Xmas trees while the bottom will make useful logs.  Clever folks these harvesters of Xmas.
