Pancake Rocks Blowholes
Another backblip, as still having wifi problems!
We moved on from Greymouth early in the morning (having to get up at 6 am on holiday is no joke) and followed the west coast road to Nelson. Our driver is lovely, but he’s obviously not a photogtapher as he goes charging padt all the best views at 100 kph, so there’s no chance to get a shot.
However, we did stop at Pancake Rocks Blowholes at Punakaiki in the Paparoa National Park ( note how these Maori names are just rolling off my tongue by now!). These are amazing limestone formations which are being shaped by the wind and the waves and are just beautiful to see on such a grand scale. When the tide and wind is right, the sea rushes up through some of the rocks like a blowhole on a whale.
We had fun trying to see how many different faces and creatures we could spot in the shapes of the rocks, but the Red Indian in Extras was the most obvious to everyone.
We crossed dozens of steel bridges over rivers and gullies, including one which allows both road and rail traffic - quite a rarity now.
Arriving at our luxurious hotel in Nelson, a very pretty town with a good mox of old and new architecture, was a treat and we are here for two nights. The wifi worked brilliantly right away and I was able to post my blip for 26th, but when we returned after dinner it had logged me out again and I was too tired to try to sort it out.
Hoping this one will load and the next one too:-)
