The giraffe and the Baobab Tree

An iconic Eastern African scene. The giant Baobab tree dwarfs the Masai Giraffe whilst providing shade from the late morning sun. The Baobab is also known as the Tree of Life. As well as welcome shade it also provides water in its fibrous trunk which elephants tear apart during the dry season. Once the rainy season comes the leaves appear giving a thick canopy.

The extra pics are also of trees providing shade for wildlife. One for some young cheetahs the other for elephants.
