Inside the Bell Tower

M and I treated ourselves to Sunday lunch out today, although some of it was delicious, there were many disappointing aspects, which was a shame.  However, after the meal we walked across the village green to visit the parish church, St Mary’s at Wiveton.  As you walk up the path to the main door you can look across at St. Margaret’s Church at Cley, which is half a mile away.  It’s hard to believe that the land in between used to be a large harbour and that Wiveton was a bustling port many years ago.  The land was allowed to silt up in the 17th Century as there was more profit in grazing than wool exporting, and both the villages of Wiveton and Cley now sit well inland from the coast.
I have included an exterior shot of the church as an extra.
