Craigmillar Castle

After a great night's sleep (more than 9 hours!) we had a delicious Scottish breakfast fixed by the wonderful B&B owner! Although, when we ordered the bacon we were expecting American bacon. Lesson learned: leave all your American expectations at home!

While in Edinburgh we have decided to leave the car at the B&B and use the awesome public transportation that we read about. So, we took the bus to downtown Edinburgh (seen here and here) and then another bus to Holyrood Abbey & palace. Photos were not allowed in the Palace itself, but I took plenty of the Abbey and grounds. What an impressive place!!

We then took the bus back to the B&B to collect the car. Craigmillar Castle was only a short distance from the B&B, so we drove there. This was our first visit to a medieval castle ruins ~ so, so cool. We don't have anything like this in America! We even saw Arthur's Seat from the top!

One of the things we were looking forward to the most on our holiday was being able to meet other blippers. Well, tonight we were able to do just that. Melamny very graciously invited us to have dinner with her and her sister, A. We were treated to a traditional Scottish supper of Haggis, neeps (turnips) and tatties (mashed potatoes). And it was delicious! So delicious I had more! (and R had Haggis the very next night for supper!)

After supper we were in for another treat ~ M & A took us to a traditional Ceilidh dance. The dance was to benefit M's Christian Union. It looked like a success to me! And it was tons of fun, even though R or I did not participate in any of the dances.
