France vs. Belgium ...

... Blue vs. Red, in the finals of the Davis Cup (billed as the "World Cup of Tennis"). They're playing in Lille, in northern France, and close to Belgium; it looked and sounded as if tickets were apportioned evenly into national sections. This image is more than a bit incoherent, but it perfectly conveys the tumultuous atmosphere in the arena. Today (Saturday) was the middle day of the three-day encounter, and they were playing doubles, which the French won, 3 sets to 1 (hooray!).  They split yesterday's two singles matches, 1-1, so the French lead 2-1 going into tomorrow's final two singles. Stay tuned! 

We had driven back earlier to Northampton Mass. from NYC to watch the match (rebroadcast on the Tennis Channel); we do not have TV in the city).
