Paua

Paua are shellfish native to New Zealand. Related to Toheroa which is a delicacy. Paua do not share the same status. However, their inside of their shells (this is one) is beautiful, and often used in jewellery now. It can also be sliced thin and applied to decorative tiles.

Today we visited S' nephew as it was his daughter's second birthday party. They had quite a number of paua shells in their garden for decoration; this is one.

CORRECTION
Paua are actually not related to toheroa except that both are marine creatures which are eaten. Toheroa are bivalves. Paua are marine gastropods (sea snails), with a single large shell, and are known in other countries as abalone and in Britain as ormer. (S advised me of the error in my hasty initial post)
