Dear, dear, dear!!!
This morning, I was walking along the street to get my newspaper when I saw a bundle of feathers lying at the side of the pavement. It was a woodcock and I guess it had been hit by a car or flown into a wire.
There was some blood at the base of its beak but quite lively. I gathered him up and took him home. He was obviously in need of attention so I drove him to the New Arc which is an animal rescue centre about half an hours drive away.
I used to help out there a few years ago. They put the bird into a cage to keep warm and hopefully “calm down” before attending to him. If he can be saved, he’s in the right place.
They have quite a collection of animals there including barn owls, pigeons, gulls, snakes etc
These three beauties in the photo will stay at the centre until they are released, probably next spring.
P.S. As you can see, we have had a sprinkling of snow.
