Life through the lens...

Bird's Breakfast

Not the best of days to have my hair done.
Very windy, dreary, but 14C. I much prefer it cold and bright.
Only photo taken this morning was of the goldfinches having their breakfast, just before the wind got up.
It is now howling down the chimney. No fire as it is warm enough. We do have the central heating on though.

By now you will probably know that yesterday's carol was
"In the Bleak Midwinter." which seems to be a favourite with many of you.
Based on a poem written by Christina Rossetti in 1872.
First set to music in 1906 with a setting by Gustav Holst.
There is also an anthem set in 1911 by Harold Drake, but I prefer the Holst setting " Cranham".  Probably because that is the one I sang first, and the one my dad played when he was organist at our local Methodist Church.
Cranham, by the way, is a small village in Gloucestershire, where Gustav Holst lived when he wrote the music.
The house is now called " Midwinter Cottage".  How nice is that.
