Art, Dance, Music
I spent Saturday in Seattle with my daughter, M, sharing two fantastic experiences.
We began by spending several hours in Seattle Art Museum's special exhibition on the 100th anniversary of artist Andrew Wyeth's birth. The extensive exhibition is the first major retrospective of Wyeth's art since his death.
We could happily have spent all day there, relishing the 110 diverse, engrossing paintings and drawings from Wyeth's 75-year career. I encourage you to explore this link, which will give you a sense of this renowned American artist's vision and talent.
But we had another event to enjoy, and after a quick late lunch, we entered Benaroya Hall, just one block from the art museum, to see a flamenco troupe we'd enjoyed for the first time last year. Casa Patas Flamenco Foundation, from Madrid, performs annually in Florida -- and two cities in Washington state, Olympia (the state capital) and Seattle!
I was once again absolutely entranced by the two dancers' athleticism, passion, and grace, and deeply moved by the rhythms of the instrumental music and the deeply emotional songs. We had seats in the second row from the stage this year, and relished being able to see every detail. This concert is a must for us now! (Each performance is different, but you can get a sense of it on this video. I suggest skipping through the singer's sections and focusing on dancers Francisco Hidalgo and Anabel Moreno.)
We finished the day with a stroll through the iconic Pike Place Market and enjoying a low-key November sunset before had to I return to the International District to catch the northbound BoltBus for my return to Bellingham.
And the next day held still more music...
[The building in today's blip is one of my favorites in downtown Seattle. Maybe one day I'll find out its name...]
