Howie's Horse

Howie, our neighbor, arrived home with his race horse this morning. He has had this six-year-old, My Thunder Bolt, for about four years, keeping him in California and Texas where he races.
Thunder has had a few set backs so Howie trailered him here and will keep him at a place on Sauvie Island to bring him back to better health, then back to the race track.
He walked Thunder over to our house, a block away, and tied him to the old horse ring in our curb for a photo op. Look up The Portland Horse Project to see how people tie tiny toy horses to these iron rings and send in photos of them.
We're going to send in this picture, and we'll also send it to Eric's great nephew, six-year-old Ty from Utah. When Ty visited us here a year ago, he was very taken with the idea of tying a toy horse to one of these rings. They even mailed us a toy horse, but I haven't quite gotten around to finishing the string halter I started making for it. Meanwhile, this real horse in a real halter will have to do for Ty.
Thunder wasn't acting up or trying to escape, he was simply trying to shake off some of the road dust after his long trailer ride.
