English country hotel garden

We went to a seventieth birthday celebration lunch today.

The setting and the weather was gorgeous. Fallowfields is a country hotel about 8 miles from Abingdon (and Oxford). Despite it being so close I've never visited it before.

The lunch and the company were superb. The hotel grows many of its own vegetables (and flowers too I assume from this picture), rears its own cattle and pigs, and even has a falconry.

The travel arrangements worked well too. We got a lift there. Despite its rural situation the Oxford to Swindon bus passes the end of the hotel driveway so we caught that back - and then a bus from Oxford to Abingdon. No waiting, no hassle. Don't you just love public transport when it works - even on a Sunday!
