From cook to pump-maker
Pictured is Chrissie - it's often hard to get her to look at the camera as she always has her head down working on something!
She came to us one day looking for work. She didn't just come and ask though, she came with a great can-do attitude and pitched herself as the very capable women she is. She was adamant that she would work hard at whatever job was available. Chrissie is the type of women that embodies what we aspire to achieve at Wells For Zoe - strong, confident and capable women. She started off as a cook, but she was curious about what else was happening at the factory and would often be found in the workshop where the pumps are made just observing, learning and asking how things are done.
Alfred, the head man in the workshop, knows a worker when he sees one and took her on. Chrissie is now as much a part of the team in there as as any of the men and very skilled at her job. It's unrealistic to think there is an opportunity for every women to go to third level education or that every woman is suited to it. This woman however came and found her niche, learning enough so that she became an invaluable part of the team in there! She is now often found teaching the younger girls everything she knows - and who knows, they too may find themselves a job in the workshop in the future!
