Edible History
All the way from Orkney, a chocolate replica of one half of a carved whalebone plaque retrieved in 1985 from the 1100 year old resting place in Sanday of a man, woman and child.
Besides the whalebone plaque, carved with dragon heads, the winter storm of 1985 exposed other beautiful possessions, an iron sword, a quiver of arrows, a gilded brooch from Norway, a comb and a set of gaming pieces.
It does seem a shame that I have to eat this chocolate replica, but eat it I will, least of all because it has a best before date of March 2018. It will not be allowed to stick around for 4months far less 1100 years.
A big thank you to Poppy in Orkney for sending this delight.
