Remembrance Sunday

Last night was the perfect night for staying in and watching a movie on TV - after all our frustrations with the plumber yesterday, made worse when we realised we had no water supply (which thankfully Gavin was able to rectify himself). We settled down and watch The Man Who Knew Infinity, a brilliant film about the maths prodigy Ramanujan.

This morning we attended the Remembrance Sunday Service at school, its always an emotional and thought provoking service where we get to sing my favourite hymns like I Vow to Thee, my Country and the choir sang the beautiful John Ireland piece Greater Love Hath No Man. Thomas played the Last Post, he did very well despite having had a late night last night and he/we received many compliments on his playing. Driving home afterwards we passed this war memorial and I liked all the ceramic poppies that had been planted around it.

I have watched all the new Christmas adverts that have just been released by the large stores, and unusually I am a bit disappointed in most of them - we spend most of our childrens' childhoods telling them that there are no monsters under the bed and then JL produce an advert about monsters under the bed. The Tesco advert has taken much criticism for including Muslims in their advert when Christmas is meant to be a Christian celebration - I did not mind that so much as the oh-so-obvious attempts to have adverts about multi cultural and multi racial families, by trying to be ever so inclusive that they almost become not inclusive. It's like the new 2018 first time ever all black Pirelli Calendar -  I know for years they have been all white but in the spirit of racial equality today, should it not just be about people, regardless of whether they are black or white?
