Remembrance Sunday.

This morning we attended a Remembrance Sunday service in Sulham. As part of the service, we remembered individuals from the area who had died during the first and second world wars. The gravestone shown above is where Winifred Helen Burtenshaw is buried, she lived in Sulham and was a nurse during the First World War. Winifred treated casualties in the nearby Battle Hospital and also Basildidon House which was used as a convalescent home, she died as a result of injuries in 1919 aged just 36.
