Fall Fruit Festival
This weekend Cloud Mountain Farm is holding its 23rd annual Fall Fruit Festival, an opportunity to sample 200 kinds of fruit and fruit products, while listening to live music.
Although Cloud Mountain is less than 20 miles northeast of Bellingham, the weather out there is more extreme -- colder in the winter, and warmer in the summer. We've shivered out there in previous October visits, but today we were seeking shade as much as possible.
The first thing we did when we arrived was to head for the (busy) Mallard Ice Cream booth. I had a scoop of Cornelian cherry, while Cynthia opted for the apple pie flavor. They were both delicious.
The hand-cranked cider press was attracting a lot of interest from young and old. Those who spent a few minutes turning the wheel were rewarded with a glass of apple juice. Youngsters are less likely to have encountered one at home, whereas it would have been a nostalgic experience for some of the older folk.
For those interested, I've posted more photos on my Flickrstream.
