Time for reflection
The small park in our town centre is actually the Memorial Gardens, laid out in honour of the town's dead in two world wars. Their names are inscribed on several cast-iron scrolls on pillars at the entrance.
I stood and read all the names today, thinking what a lovely memorial the park is, beautifully kept by the parks and gardens department with colour all year round and lots to attract my beloved bumblebees.
But just as I've never seen anyone stopping to enjoy the bees, nobody today was looking at the names, although a few poppy crosses have been placed near them.
How much we owe all those people who gave their lives that we might be free.
