Why I Wear a Poppy
Posted on FB. Apologies if you've already read it x
I understand that some people choose not to wear a poppy or wear a white one to promote peace.
I wear my poppy with huge pride to remember those who fought in the first and second world wars. I am particularly proud of my own father who fought in the second world war and thankful that he returned physically unharmed He must have been emotionally and mentally affected, though he only ever mentioned in 'snippets' what he experienced. We do know that he was rescued from Dunkirk and after a brief respite was sent back overseas. We know he didn't see his son, my brother until the age of two . We know he lost friends and commrades. We hugely regret not talking to him about this huge event in his life...and now it's too late to have those conversations. Thank you Dad for all you sacrificed to secure our freedom and to all of those who served to protect us during those terrible years.
