This was the address of Percy Gilbert, he was the Great Uncle of my husband.
Percy was posted to the Leicestershire Regiment (The Tigers) on 8/12/1914 and went to fight for King and country
He fought in several battles and at the Battle of Broodseinde he was badly wounded with shrapnel and subsequently died on11/10/1917 age 23. He is buried in the British Cemetery at Godewaersvelde. We hope to make the journey over there next year .
Chris and I will be going down to the Cenotaph tomorrow, he will be marching with his Regiment. Afterwards we will go to The Palace of Westminster and place a cross for Percy on the field of Remembrance in grateful thanks to him and all the other soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
It's fitting that the house is now a florists shop and this is the display she had in the window today
