West Vlieland

This heraldic crest belongs to the village of West Vlieland. This was lost to the sea in 1736, and the barren tree was perhaps a harbinger of doom. The township now lies under the waves of the North Sea, 6 miles west of southwestern Vlieland. This crest, at the entrance to the old town hall, is all that now remains, alongside with the yellow bricks that wash up on the shores of Vlieland.
