Auld Reekie

The view of Edinburgh and the surrounding area from Allermuir Hill. To the extreme left and right are Bo'ness and Roslin. Salisbury Crags can be seen in the centre. The image is a panorama composed of 17 portrait shots and covers roughly a 200 degree view.

It was another lovely day today, and although there were a few black clouds looming about, it stayed dry. After my "late to bed" this morning at 4am I had a long lie, getting up at 10.30 am! Heh, for anyone who knew me BB (before blip - thanks, I told you I'd use it Kaysha) they'd know that this would have been the (optimistically) earliest they'd see me rise from my pit. Just look what has this place done to me!

Anyway, I then headed up for my weekly stroll up to the Pentland Hills. Following my walk up to the top of Castlelaw Hill (488m/1601ft) a couple of weeks ago, today's target was to walk up Allermuir Hill. At 493m (1617ft) it isn't the highest peak on the range, but it is one of two marilyns. The sun was dotting in and out of some black clouds on my way up to the base of the hill from Dreghorn but by the time I got to the summit, blues skies had returned. From there I decided to head along the length of the North Pentlands range and take in the peaks of Caerketton (473m/1552ft) and Hillend (345m/1132ft) before descending and walking back along the city view walk at their base.

I've been tasked with the challenge of bagging a munro by the end of the year so this is all vital training. Initial talks have already taken place between interested parties. Watch this space! ;-)

Sorry I haven't been around much. Back in a bit to start my catch up.

No matter how many grey clouds obstruct your immediate view, remember there are always blue skies right behind them. x
