From Hasst to Franz Joseph
Peter reckoned it was absolutely Baltic when his feet hit the deck this morning. I was still under the covers warm...well we were in Hasst and I am surprised it didn’t snow again.
There was a very thin thread of wifi last night so after going through the pics of the day it was early to bed. ....after all batteries and devices were wonderfully recharging........I slept like a log until 8am it was great.
Today was mostly about driving although we did stop at Ships Creek.....(which was a beach too).....really it was called Ships Creek......there is a reason for it but that is another story for another time. On the beach and as with all the river beds around this area......it is like a graveyard for trees. The trees must get washed down in the heavy rains and or as Peter reckons (he is a lot more clued up than I...usually) it could of been washed in from the sea.......whatever .......it looked amazing...there were hearts....tuataras .....naked people...dogs...birds and just about anything one can imagine.
We trundled on to another place stopped and made some lunch and a cup of tea...it was right on the lakefront (lots of those midges) and it was one of those places that was just superb to be but any pics taken would not do it justice.
Knights point offered a most beautiful lookout to the ocean........the foliage could of been cut back for some really wonderful shots though. When I get to the ocean and I look out to sea there is something inside of me that relaxes and feels happy......the snowy mountains and emerald forests and mirror like lakes are just awesome but by the ocean I feel space and in some ways at home.......who would of ever thunk it.....me a girl from London who went to the beach a handful of times until she was 59 and then the landscape changed.......literally.
I digress.
We got to Franz Joseph....did a little shopping and went to book in for our helicopter flight to the glacier....BOOOOOOOOO it was cancelled because of incoming weather....it was raining and cloudy by then....but it had be so fine all day with hardly a cloud in the sky....then the buggers started to start following us and drop water. Never mind we are booked in for tomorrow morning......I hope there are a few clouds around then...it is forecasted to be sunny....however in this neck of the woods that could change anytime.
The bonus was that we got to our caravan park early....... cause there was time to do some washing and cleaning and all that other stuff. Another early night is in order for our early start tomorrow.
I am going to post a few extras from yesterday that I couldn’t last night.
