Tioram

Castle Tioram is a hugely important castle for many of the same reasons as Mingary, but arguably even more so due to the cultural associations with the Gaelic world and learned orders. This is the historic seat of Clanranald, abandoned by them in the early 18th century and indeed burned by the Captain of Clanranald as he led his people 'out' in the 1715 Rising in order that it not be occupied against him.

The building is a hot topic amongst archaeologists. Hugely important on a number of levels, but collapsing. There is no money for the prohibitive cost of preservation, so do you alllow a willing individual to reoccupy it as home and remove much of the charm and importance? Hmmm....

Can't help but think the debate over Tioram has allowed Mingary to go somewhat unnoticed. Got to be a good thing.
