Abstract Thursday - Natural Surprise

Thank you Ingeborg for hosting today's AT challenge with the intriguing theme of Natural Surprise.
This is certainly natural and a real surprise.   T noticed this strange pinky purple growth on the magnolia tree and asked me to check online to see what disease had caused it, and what should he do to rescue the plant.  It turns out it is not a disease at all but a seed case, which will split and release bright red seeds.  This has never occurred before in all the years we have had the tree. A definite surprise.
I have given it a watercolour treatment to add to the abstract effect.
