In an English Country Garden...
A friend came round today. He's a very wealthy single man (think £1.5m+) in his mid-70's. He sold a buoyant business a few years ago and retired. He was never one to waste his money on luxuries but spent wisely and bought the best. Always a workaholic, he's now struggling with retirement. He just can't come to terms with living on his small state pension and (massive) investments. He talked at length about his loneliness and the difficulties of living alone. And the fear of the ailing economy and his failing health.
And what has the pic above got to do with this? Well that's the back bumper of his latest car - a 12 year old Ford Fiesta. A good idea to save money by running a small car but a step too far I think. His 1960's beautifully restored Ford Consul Capri is in the garage but he won't take it out incase it gets damaged. All very sad and a bit disturbing. I'll keep my eye on him.
