Dashed up to Gallery Oldham during a bit of free time in the middle of the day to see the Liam Spencer exhibition before it ends tomorrow.

It's only the second time that I've been here, the first was when it had just opened, and it was unrecognisable. The place now houses the library and various community spaces and there was a real buzz about it which was a pleasant surprise.

I like Spencer's work and it was good to see it 'live' rather than in catalogues. He came to prominence initially with his paintings of Manchester and Salford, but then moved out of the city and began painting Pennine villages. I much prefer the urban works.

Much of what was here has been on show before, but I liked his depictions of Oldham that he had completed specially for this show.
