All sewn up

My friend Janet is part of the Re-View Textile network of artists working with, well, textiles. The clue is in the name!

At the moment they've got a great show, 'Hospitality Re-viewed', on at Baltic Creative and I spent today's lunch-break having a good look round.

The works in the show have been created collaboratively by groups of three (or so) artists working more or less 'in the dark' about what their collaborators were doing beyond a general theme of welcome and hospitality. Sometimes the artists were sending pieces of work to colleagues overseas whom they had never met and waiting to see how their contribution would be incorporated into a larger piece.

This is a detail of a work entitled It's What's Inside That Matters which was created by Janet (Wilkinson) with Judith Railton and Sue Boardman and is a patchwork wigwam containing three cushions. The appliquéd Honesty leaves are definitely Janet's work!
