ROWNTREE PARK
Rowntree Park, Terry Avenue York is still under water, and the gates remain locked.
The park was a gift to York City Council back in 1921 by Messrs Rowntree & Co who, created the park as a memorial to all the Cocoa Works staff who fell in World War 1. A set of listed gates were added later as a memorial to all those who fell in World War 2.
With support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, £1.8 million has been spent on refurbishments to the park, and has, every year since 2004 been awarded a Green Flag. For those that have never been to the park, it has a lot to offer.
