Bangour Village Hospital

When I got up this morning, it looked like a lovely crisp but dry day outside. After much persuasion, my husband finally agreed to come for a walk with me so I could get a blip. Trouble was, by the time he was ready, and we got in the car it had started to rain a little. By the time we got to our destination it had turned to snow which was not idea for where my planned walk was! So we decided to take a longer route home and on the way drove past Bangour Village Hospital so decided to have a wander round there instead.

Bangour was a psychiatric hospital in West Lothian which closed in 2004. It's a massive site - far bigger than I had realised before starting to explore it today. It's very eerie too and quite sad looking at all the abandoned buildings (many of which are listed buildings). The site had everything from its own railway at one point, to a bakers, church and village shop (as shown in todays blip). The village was used a few years ago for the outdoor shots in a Hollywood film called The Jacket .

It started to snow very heavily while we were there and after an hour or so of exploring the site, my poor frozen hands had more than had enough, we came back home.

There are lots of blipping opportunities there so I'm sure I'll go back another time when it's a bit warmer.
